The BOE was searched and contains no Messi entry. The negative result is consistent with acquisition of nationality by residence (Ministry of Justice resolution plus Registro Civil inscription, neither published in the BOE) and inconsistent with carta de naturaleza, which does appear in the BOE. Recorded as a negative result used as positive evidence of method, not as an absence of the source itself.
